Soteriology- The New God?
« on: September 11, 2007, 09:32:30 PM »
This came from a commentary that i read. Your thoughts please.
Say what? Christianity in the West has created a third God that it's adherents think trumps the first two. This isn't all that hard, and while reading you'll learn a few new words- maybe. All true and genuine Christianity has to have at it's core an evaluation of the total being and personality that we call Jesus, The Christ. The technical term being CHRISTOLOGY. We can break Christology down into two main grouping. There is the Synoptic version of Jesus, the man of history. Then there is the Johannine version, the divine man of faith. Got it? That's why I put a comma after Jesus, the Christ! His first and last name was not, is not, Jesus Christ.

While Christology is at the core of Christianity, the Christocentric principle is to point us to the theocentric aspects of God. Theology is about God. Jesus came to point us to God, to show us what God is all about.

Those who think Christianity (Protestant) is the only true religion, have only not transformed the Catholic version of religion, that thinks all outside of the Roman Catholic church are heretics, lost, outside of grace, and going to hell, but joined them in the arrogance. If your theology is one wherein you think God only loves YOU and your church, YOU and your denomination, YOU and your version of Christianity (and there are many), then you've created a really SMALL God. And you've created a sadistic MONSTER who would come up with such a plan.

We were created in the image of God! Do you remember Genesis 1:26?

And yes we are sinners- greatly so;therefore, the act and action of God in Jesus, the Christ, is effectual for the salvation of man. Can you sall ALL mankind? I know, I know, if you're a fundamentalist that's an impossibility to verbalize. However we want to define redemption, Jesus is where we have to begin. The concept of salvation is called Soteriology! Soteriology is the study of salvation. The word comes from two Greek terms: soter, meaning "savior," and logos, meaning "word", "reason", or "principle".

Onward!

Fundamentalists who view the Bible as totally inerrant, the last word (when exactly did God or the living Christ quit speaking anyway?) and ALL about salvation have denied themselves and the rest of the world of their love. Yes love. They feel it is their responsibility to get you SAVED (however ugly and persistent that might mean they must be)! And if you won't obey them, well then, God's gonna send you to hell. Forever! Eternally! :mshock:

Translation please!

Soteriology has become an idol, the god that is bigger and more important that Christology or theology.

First off, the Catholic Church doesn't believe that God only loves Catholics.  A simple reading of the catechism will confirm that.  In another post you seem to be willing to throw out the Apostles Creed as if it is meaningless.  Read the catechism of the Catholic Church from 830-848 and you will see the Catholic Church recognizes that salvation is available for non-Catholics as well as Catholics.
