Polus - all or many?
« on: December 16, 2010, 09:30:08 PM »
In 1 Corinthians 15:22, how can we be sure that the Greek word "polus" is referring to "all" and not "many"?

Hi.  Quickly, others will say more;  IMO, even if it did mean many in that verse, there are "many"  :laughing7: other places where the word (tav panta?) is used, which has been shown to my satisfaction to indeed mean "all'.  So taken in context of other scrips....

Blessings.
Neither should there be vulgar speech, foolish talk, or coarse jesting--all of which are out of character--but rather thanksgiving.  Eph. 5:4  **  Saved 1John 3.2, Eph. 2:8, John 1:12 - Being saved 2Cor. 4:16 2Peter 3:18 - Will be saved 1Peter 1:5 Romans 8:23

Do you have any examples of verses that use "tav panta"?

I may have been a little off on tav panta, thus the ? on the spelling.  But I do recall the examination of the greek words for all, and they were pretty convincing.  (it appears one of the spellings may be ta pavnte.  Missed it by that much  :laughing7:)

Here's a good thread that delves into it pretty deeply and may be helpful.

PAUL TO THE COLOSSIANS
Chapter 1

15 Who is the Image of the invisible God, Firstborn of every creature,
16 for in Him is all created, that in the heavens and that on the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones, or lordships, or sovereignties, or authorities,
 all
is created through Him and for Him,
17 and He is before all, and all has its cohesion in Him.
18 And He is the Head of the body, the ecclesia, Who is Sovereign, Firstborn from among the dead, that in all He may be becoming first,
19 for in Him the entire complement delights to dwell,
20 and through Him to reconcile all to Him (making peace through the blood of His cross), through Him, whether those on the earth or those in the heavens.
