John 17: A very brief outline of God's Glorious Plan

BEFORE TIME:

Love, Glory, Father, Son
vv 1-5; v 24

DURING TIME:

love, believe

v.8, v 20-21, v 26

AFTER TIME:

Love, Glory, Father, Son (bring many sons to glory, many members one body)

v. 24 be with Me, may behold My glory

===============================

Eph 1:4-5
According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before Him.

In love, having predestined us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.    see also Eph 1:10

1 John 4:9,19
In this was manifested the love of God towards us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

We love Him, because He first loved us.

1 Pet 1:8
Whom having not seen, ye love; in Whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believe - rejoice greatly, full of glory.    (I pray daily that we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to Him be all glory both now and forever.)

1 John 3:23

And this is His commandment, that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another.

Well my relationship with Tentmaker Forum has become an "oh mying" time...  John 17 is one of my favorite chapters and I had been thinking about reviving this thread ...

Ded... oh my, we're such very different personalities and yet here we are "loving" John 17... actually, it is the book and chapter I suggest to my family, friends, and current fellowshippers to read as I discuss with them  (either by email, telephone, or face-to-face)that we will all be together WITH GOD for all eternity so why not just start loving every one now... with special emphasis on forgiving everyone everything...   anna274 aka good report aka seek first

You and I are such different personalities but Good Report and I really think(thought) alike :laughing7:
Most people don't realize that verse 23 is one of the most profound. The Father loves us AS MUCH as He loves His son Jesus.
Mindblowing. But then it kinda defines unconditional, infinite love of God. :Pray:

Can one believe in Love and not believe in God? Can one believe in God and not believe in Love? All of History is all about His Story. The old and New covenants both wrote extensively. Who is this man of Glory? He is God, He is Jesus, He is Love, He is light. Light and Love in a sin darkened and hate filled world. Maranatha!

 Thank you, Ded, for this reminder:  Light and love in a sin darkened and hatefilled world.  Maranatha!

I've learned that the best prayers for me are the prayers from Scriptures... a particular favorite prayer came to mind as I read your reply.  I do talk to the Lord in my way... but I'll give the Scripture verses that have influenced my prayer life especially in connection with all the current darkness and hate...

Col 1:8-14

v 8  Who also declared unto us your LOVE in the Spirit.

v 9  For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

v 10  That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

v 11  Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

v 12  Giving thanks unto the Father which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in LIGHT:

v 13  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His love:

v 14 In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins.

As an aside note:  when some of the other elderly tenants tell me that they no longer watch the News because it really, really depresses them and so they go off to play BINGO...  I just smile ( a very, very sad smile) and say... "well just because you won't watch the NEWS doesn't mean that all that hate, murder, etc. will go away."  I try very gently to tell them maybe we should spend some time in prayer... and then they smile (sarcastically)  Father, forgive them they know not what they do.

Mindblowing. But then it kinda defines unconditional, infinite love of God. :Pray:

Oh yes!!! John 17:23
I in them and Thou in Me, that they may be made perfect in one; AND THAT THE WORLD MAY KNOW THAT THOU HAS SENT ME, and hast loved them, as Thou hast loved Me.  :HeartThrob:

Reading verse 23 in context has further encouraged me to start a new topic "Dreams, visions, tongues, slain in the spirit, deliverances..."  (this topic is still under construction...)

 Through 75 years of growing in the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord, I have learned, sometimes painfully-- sometimes joyfully that it is God Who chooses the way (dreams, visions, etc.) in which He by His Spirit draws us to Jesus (John 6:44); the way in which by His Spirit He encourages us, teaches us,  corrects us, LOVES us.

John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall BELIEVE on Me through their word;
v 21 That they all may be one; as Thou, Father, art in me, and I in Thee, that they also may be one in us:  THAT THE WORLD MAY BELIEVE THAT THOU HAST SENT ME.

My prayer always is that the way, the words, that I use to share my very personal experiences of God's "dealings" with me will in fact lead to the world's (especially family and friends) believing and knowing God and Jesus Christ whom He sent (John 17:2)

I hope I don't stray.. (greetings! :smile: I have a daughter named Anna.. after the prophetess who lived at the temple)

When I hear "God's Glorious Plan" i can't help but think how very much it is underestimated!! I think of it as "God's Great Plan of Salvation" - At first glance, to me, it seemed they were different from each other, the glorious plan and the great one "of salvation", but as I thought about it, I think they're the same! It seems to me 'the church' seems to think life as we know it, is somehow outside the plan and design of God. Somehow God was caught unaware (this implies!) But is that possible?
Nah (imho :smile: )

I find myself thinking that God has done every single thing in just the way He has, in order to bring about the absolutely best possibility, and outcome, possible. His "Glorious Plan"!! :thumbsup: :dsunny:
- Is it written? no repentance after death? if resurrected still in ones sins (2nd Resurrection) will be weeping and wailing? Holy Days - Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles prophecy the three peaks of His long 2nd advent? Is weeping & wailing the beginning of the redemptive process?

Oh Marie, please stray away!!!  I enjoy your perspective on all things spiritual...

I have learned  to stay away from labels of all sorts, including UR; so discussing "God's glorious plan" (to bring all, every single human being that ever lived, to be with Him for all eternity) has become for me a very pleasant alternative... I don't defend or reject any group's (denomination) theology... Most people with whom I discuss "God's glorious plan" are familiar with John 17...which has proven (to me) to be a great springboard.

 God's Glorious Plan in a simple, beautiful, all inclusive hymn ...

WONDERFUL MESSAGE  (James Rowe, 1913)

Tell it to others as onward you go,
Wonderful message of love;
Send it from hearts that with joy overflow,
Wonderful message of love.

Refrain
Wonderful message, beautiful message,
Sent by the Father above;
Wonderful message, life-giving message,
Marvelous message of love.

Tell how it brightens each step of the way,
Wonderful message of love;
Tell it to those who from God are astray,
Wonderful message of love.

Sweeter it seems every time it is told,
Wonderful message of love;
Tell it, till safe in the city of gold,
Wonderful message of love.

..."perfected in unity.." from Jn 17.. that's the verse which most catches my eye in John 17.. Hard to think of us all (believers in Jesus) as being "perfected in unity".. or so it seems to the outward view.. Like you mentioned, Anna, when I am with other believers of this or that denomination or not a denomination, I don't bring up 'hell' or Universal Reconciliation.. Unless I feel the urging of the Spirit, which with me, usually takes shape as an opening :smile:

I will say things like "I think we sometimes may underestimate His glorious plan of salvation.. that we will find more folks saved than we expect.." - things like that.. seed, or hints.. whichever! Then I try to remember to pray over those seeds! Or I will quote as praise "all the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD and all families of the nations will worship before Him" (Ps 22:27)..

It's nice to have a place to come where we can express the ridiculousness of 'hell', for instance!! Very refreshing!  :girlheart:

Your second thought is gonna be HEY! What are they doing here?? :laughing7: :Peace2:

 Meditate on God's Glorious Plan in song

HERE IS LOVE Rees, Williams, Edwards (1883----1900)

Here is love, vast as the ocean,
Lovingkindness as the flood,
When the prince of Life, our Ransom,
Shed for us His precious blood.
Who His love will not remember?
Who can cease to sing His praise?
He can never be forgotten,
Throughout Heav'n eternal days.

On the mount of crucifixion,
Fountains opened deep and wide;
Through the floodgates of God's mercy
Flowed a vast and gracious tide.
Grace and love, like mighty rivers,
Poured incessant from above,
And heaven's peace and perfect justice
Kissed a guilty world in love.

Let me all Thy love accepting,
Love Thee, ever all my days;
Let me seek Thy kingdom only
And my life be to Thy praise;
Thou alone shalt be my glory,
Nothing in the world I see.
Thou hast cleansed and sanctified me,
Thou Thyself hast set me free.

In Thy truth Thou dost direct me
By Thy Spirit through Thy Word;
And Thy grace my need is meeting,
As I trust in Thee, my Lord.
Of Thy fullness Thou art pouring
Thy great love and power on me,
Without measure, full and boundless,
Drawing out my heart  to Thee.

John 6:44
No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him:  and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

from Daily Overcoming Devotional  Ray Prinzing (for November 23)

SPRINKLING THE NATIONS

"So shall He sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at Him:  for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider,"  Isaiah 52:15

God's plan of the ages, the fullness and scope of His grace, the glory and the majesty of His kingdom, the ultimate triumph that surely must come, such truth shall be declared unto ALL mankind - the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Then shall come the fulfillment of the prophecy, "So shall He sprinkle many nations".  This word "sprinkle" is very interesting.  One Bible scholar points out that the original idea of the Hebrew root seems to be, that of leaping, or causing to leap, either with surprise or joy; so one explains the cognate verb in Arabic, and from thence seems to be derived its secondary and more common meaning, "to spurt out", as from a wound, from a brush or bunch of hyssop, by way of sprinkling.  But taking the word in the former sense, we could translate it, "He shall cause many nations to leap with surprise and joy.".  This agrees with the next sentence, "Kings shall shut their mouths at Him," or, be silent with surprise and admiration of His presence, for "That which had not been told them shall they see, and that which had not been heard shall they consider."

Metaphorically, He has sprinkled many nations with His blood, "Having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven,"  Col 1:20

"He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."  1John 2:2.  The more the pure Gospel of the ages is announced, the glory and power of His kingdom is proclaimed, and the world shall see "The knowledge of the glory of the Lord," then, indeed, the kings shall shut their mouths at Him.  The wonder of it all, the surprise, the joy, to know that HIS LIFE SHALL BE THEIRS, His peace shall be theirs, His salvation is for them - it will leave them speechless.  No more the gloom and despair, they shall leap with joy, and bow low to worship before Him.  Praise God!
