This came from a commentary that i read. Your thoughts please.
I don't use the over-worked and Hollywood-church hyped hell concept: I believe in divine judgment. In other words, instead of believing that a God who came up with a plan for 90% of the world to be eternally tormented in some sort of physical-spiritual fire, I believe in a God who is JUST! Tell me, where's the justice in infinite torment for finite sins? Come on! Surely you give God more credit than that! Don't you? Here's what I've gleaned by the Spirit about divine judgment.
Revelation 19:20 says (NLT) "And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. If you're very, very righteous, and reward oriented, you're not going to like what I'm about to say.
Your ex-husband will be saved!
As well as the head of the head of the IRS, George W. Bush, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the Time-Warner operator who keeps hanging up on your "service call request" after you've waited for fifteen minutes to talk to a real live person. Back to verse 20 and three words.
The KJV uses the word brimstone which is the same thing, same Greek word theion (#2303), from #2304 (divinity). Sulphur is used to heal burns. Did you know that? So, in what I belevie is a "spiritual insight", divine judgment simply means that….
Fire = light and heat
Burns = consumes and changes (alters but does not destroy- water to steam?)
Sulphur = Divine and healing
Thus after we have died and left this earthly life (first death), we will all face the judgment seat of God (White throne?) as II Cor. 5:10 reminds us. This second death will remove any dross (corruption to incorruption). So, let's rearrange those three words and see what divine judgment is…………….
Sulphur = Divine
Fire = Heat and light
Burns = Alters and changes
In the second death God's Spirit (earth will be destroyed by fire, not water the second time, which is he Holy Spirit, not a natural fire) will alter and change us into the divine beings we really are. Or, said another way, Divine light changes - everything.
That said, I can imagine this will be no cake walk, so if you're thinking I don't have to follow God, think again! We will be judged for the things we do and ARE here on earth. Divine judgment is enough to keep me on my knees, but unlike the church pictured eternal hell, enough to assure me that His judgment is for my restoration and redemption. God is after all, LOVE!
And HELL? Well, ask the church about that.
