I personally do not believe pure monotheism or polytheism have ever existed. Monotheism believes that there is one God completely separate from the Universe. Polytheism states that there are several all powerful beings. Henotheism states that there is one absolute in the manifestation of countless forms. and Pantheism states that the whole universe is of God. Now I dont think that Polytheism ever existed because that would mean that there are several all powerful belings, and as far as history has always been, there have always been religious systems where all the gods were part of an absolute, working together. That was part of Egyptian, and Greek mythology. Plus two absolutely all powerful beings makes no sense. And Monotheism would imply that there is one god, but that creation exists outside of him. Sort of like a king ruling over people. Plus Orthodox Christianity would be more henotheistic than monotheistic with the Trinity. So Im wondering what the bible teaches on this subject.
