Just recently, I saw a video about Moral Psychology as related to a Liberal vs. Conservative in a more political sense. Morals were divided into 5 categories based on Purity, Harm, Authority, Loyalty and Fairness. However some surveys indicated that Liberals held Fairness and not causing harm to be of high importance, while putting purity loyalty and authority on the bottom of the priority scale. However the Conservatives were a balanced out on these points, but put fairness at a significant bottom. They also went onto explain how the Liberal mind views the Conservative Morality based on loyalty, authority and purity to create oppressive systems discriminating against outsiders. The Conservatives viewed the Liberals as rebels out trying to destroy order and tradition for the sake of Change.
What struck me was how the Church system when it went too far right, created an authoritarian system where people were oppressed, and many people were discriminated against. It seems when Christianity goes to liberal, Jesus becomes nothing more than a wise philosopher, guru, prophet like Buddha, Socrates, Muhammed, Moses, or Isaiah. However you get too conservative, you get a legalistic Church system with a pretty lousy spirituality.
