Does EVERYTHING have a purpose?
« on: February 19, 2011, 05:09:30 AM »
Are there any bible quotes that say that EVERYTHING that God allows to happen has a purpose?  Cause if there are, it would answer a lot of deep questions I've been having

Powerful, micah.

DC,

I'd personally make a simple suggestion - take these 2 scriptures to the Lord in prayer.  Don't solely take anyone's word for it.  There've been many struggles over it, with no indisputable consensus acceptable to all.   Different people believe different things.  Ask God to give you His mind on it.  It may be a "work in progress" for you.  I personally have some basic beliefs about it, but still working on some things with it.

So the suggestion is;  ask God what He wants you to know about it, what He wants you to see, for Him to give you wisdom and understanding.

"..also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things according to the counsel of His will...  Ephesians 1:11

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."  Romans 8:28

I have always believe God works everything in the lives of believers for their good.  Which I believe means drawing them into a maturing relationship with him.

Ecclesiastes31  "To every [thing there is] a season 2165, and a time 6256 to every purpose 2656 under the heaven 8064..." (King James Version with Strong's numbers)

Colossians 116-20 (Concordant Literal Translation)...
16 for in Him is all created, that in the heavens and that on the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones, or lordships, or sovereignties, or authorities, all is created through Him and for Him,
17 and He is before all, and all has its cohesion in Him.
18 And He is the Head of the body, the ecclesia, Who is Sovereign, Firstborn from among the dead, that in all He may be becoming first,
19 for in Him the entire complement delights to dwell,
20 and through Him to reconcile all to Him...

Romans 828 (Concordant Literal Translation)...
Now we are aware that God is working all together for the good of those who are loving God...

Yes.

Now we are aware that God is continually causing all things to work together for the good of those who are continually loving God, for those who are, in accordance with His purpose, the Called Ones. Romans 8:28 (Christian Bible)

NASB Pro 16:1  The plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is
from the LORD.

CEV Pro 16:1  We humans make plans, but the LORD has the final word.

NASB  Pro 16:9  The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

CEV Pro 16:9  We make our own plans, but the LORD decides where we will go.

NASB Pro 20:24  Man's steps are ordained by the LORD, How then can man understand his way?

Net Pro 20:24  The steps of a person73 are ordained by74 the LORD   so how can anyone75 understand his own76 way?

Net commentary Pro 20:24

73 tn Heb  "the steps of a man"; but "man" is the noun גֶּבֶר (gever, in pause), indicating an important, powerful person. BDB 149-50 s.v. suggests it is used of men in their role of defending women and children; if that can be validated, then a translation of "man" would be appropriate here. But the line seems to have a wider, more general application. The "steps" represent (by implied comparison) the course of life (cf. NLT "the road we travel").

74 tn Heb  "from the LORD"; NRSV "ordered by the Lord"; NIV "directed by the Lord."

sn To say that one's steps are ordained by the LORD means that one's course of actions, one's whole life, is divinely prepared and sovereignly superintended (e.g., Gen_50:26; Pro_3:6). Ironically, man is not actually in control of his own steps.

75 tn The verse uses an independent nominative absolute to point up the contrast between the mortal and the immortal: "and man, how can he understand his way?" The verb in the sentence would then be classified as a potential imperfect; and the whole question rhetorical. It is affirming that humans cannot understand very much at all about their lives.

NASB Isa 46:10  Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, 'My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure';

CEV Isa 46:10  From the very beginning, I told what would happen long before it took place. I kept my word

CLV Ecc 3:11 He has made everything fitting in its season; However, He has put obscurity in their heart So that the man may not find out His work, That which the One, Elohim, does from the beginning to the terminus." I know that there is no good for them Save to rejoice and to achieve good in one's life; And, moreover, anyone of humanity, That he should eat and drink and see good from all his toil, It is a gift of Elohim." I know that all the One, Elohim, is doing, It shall be for the eon; Onto it there can be nothing to add, And from it there can be nothing to subtract; The One, Elohim, He does it that they may fear before Him."

This is all I could find at the moment.
Paul
