I Cor 9:27
but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified
If physical exercise profiteth little....what was Paul talking about here? Does anyone here discipline their bodies so as not to be "disqualified" in the way that Paul speaks about? What would that include? If no physical ritual changes us spiritually, what about physical exercise? Is this just so that Paul is able to be "all things to all people" in order to "save some?"
And yes, I am trying to avoid the gym!
Yo
Joyful... means
full of CHRIST...Great name.
Me.
Paul an ex pharisee ALSO needed to subject his body( heart and mind) to the TRUTH and not fall away to the TRUTH of the era which was..
Rom 2:17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
Rom 2:18 And knowest [his] will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
Rom 2:19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
Rom 2:20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the
form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. He like many before him were raised in the traditions of their fathers.
as for the Latter about going to the gym..DONT GO,..for mine I believe what paul means is this in context of the verses prior...exercise meaning to abstain from eating meats etc ,profits little ( nothing)
1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
1Ti 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
1Ti 4:7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself [rather] unto godliness.
1Ti 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
