Rev 11:8 Their bodies will lie in the street of the
great city, which is
figuratively called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.
Rev 16:19 The
great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.
Rev 17:18 The woman you saw is the
great city that rules over the kings of the earth."
Rev 18:10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: "'Woe! Woe,
O great city, O Babylon, city of power! In one hour your doom has come!'
and cry out: "'Woe! Woe,
O great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls! In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!' "Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, 'Was there ever a city like this great city?' They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out: "'Woe! Woe,
O great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin! Rejoice over her, O heaven! Rejoice, saints and apostles and prophets! God has judged her for the way she treated you.'" Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: "With such violence
the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.
(Rev 18:16-21)
For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged
the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
(Rev 19:2)
I am not sure that all these prophecies can be fulfilled by an Arab confederacy or caliphate, certainly not at this time. I think the "ruler of all the kings of the earth", "where our lord was crucified", who has "corrupted the earth with her fornication" is a mystical matrix of principalities that moves around ruling over the kingdoms of the earth through different kingdoms in different eras(see Rev 17:9-11). For over two thousand of years it was Rome. She(Babylon) sits upon seven hills. The hills represent kingdoms manifesting thoughout time. She is the "mother of all the harlots and abominations of the earth of the earth"- I don't think Islam qualifies for that title- evil as it is, it is only about 700 years old. The fact that the whole world mourns at her fall, "who will by our silks, our perfumes, etc....." and the references to her painted face and her fornications leads me to believe she situated over the western capitalist nations at the time of her fall, perhaps Rome again, or New York City, or perhaps, earthly Jerusalem, "where our Lord was crucified".
however, if you recall Psalms where the prophetic voice speaks of "Bashan"
I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly. Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. Many bulls have compassed me:
strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and
all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
(Psa 22:10-14)
The people of Bashan were the remnant of the giants(Joshua 12:4) who came with their king Og against the Israelites under Moses, and were utterly destroyed. "Strong bulls of Bashan" have surrounded me, IMO refers (figuratively) to the principalities and powers and the Cainites(Pharisees) that where watching as Jesus died on the cross displayed before all, "if they(principalities and powers) had understood(the hidden wisdom) they would not have crucified the Lord of glory". (1 Cor. 2)
These "principalities" acted through the Pharisees(you are of your father the devil, he was a murderer from the beginning).
Babylon (head of gold, ruled by man, ridden by the whore), is the evolutionary pinnacle of Cain, embodied by the devil(anti-Christ), in bed with the prostitute "religion of the day".
The hill of God(Zion) is described in scripture as a "high hill like Bashan"(Psalm 68:15)
Amos prophesied, "Hear this word, ye kin of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink". Likening the Israelites of unrighteous Samaria(another hill) to the Canaanites of Baashan who had once possessed the land.
Ezekiel prophesied,"Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan."
This is similar to Revelations, John's prophesy And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
(Rev 19:17-19)
The seven hills represent seven kings(kingdoms) upon which the woman sits, five had fallen already at the time of John's prophesy, one was currently in power as John's prophecy was given(Rome), the seventh was not yet and the beast was the eighth kingdom and was from the seven.(Revelations17:9) This, IMO supports Mystery Babylon as a more ubiquitous and aoinian figure of the "hill of Bashan", the "god of this age", and the "jezebel type" of religion that fornicates with the world and slays the saints and prophets. This type is PERFECTLY MANIFEST in the age as Herod(head of gold, beast) is ridden by Herodias(the harlot with a gold cup in her mouth drinking blood) and murders/martyrs John the Baptist at her request because of LUST FOR HERODIAS' DAUGHTER. The city of god surrounded by the hordes of the nations(hills) is both a type and a historically recurring fact of the scriptures and the age.
As to whether there will be a final "great city" manifestation in Iran/Iraq- I am not saying that is not eventually possible, but it doesnt seem imminent or likely to me(but I aint nobody anyhow :o)
