The United States government and its agencies have committed many atrocities in the world in the name of God, country, freedom and democracy while most of its people were busy watching “Dancing with the Stars” and “American Idol.” One of the greatest tragedies was placing food sanctions on the Iraqi people. Between 500,000 to a million children under the age of 6 were murdered from this action committed by the United States government. When secretary of state Madeline Albright was asked whether she thought all those deaths of those innocent kids were worth it, she said, “Yes.” And the American people did not rise up against this horrible act. Most Americans know the verse of Scripture “As you sow, so shall you reap.” Mark Twain wrote the following words many decades ago:
By “trampling upon the helpless abroad” with unchecked surveillance, Americans have learned, “by a natural process, to endure with apathy the like at home.” – Mark Twain
The prophetic eyes see canyons where most Americans only see cracks. It is only if the American people turn away from the propaganda of the mainstream media and listen to the voices of those who cry out against injustice and tyranny that America may turfrom the devastation before it. There is great injustice in the land and too many Americans have blindly and ignorantly supported it.
“There is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetuated under the shield of law and in the name of justice.” – Charles De Montesquieu
Let America Be America Again
Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed–
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.
One thought on “Will Americans Repent?”
I read somewhere awhile back that poverty is a necessary consequence of capitalism and that unless one lifts themselves up by their own bootstraps they will justifiably stay in poverty. I don’t remember Jesus saying anything near like that although Paul did say that if you don’t work you don’t eat when referring to some sitting around waiting for the second coming of Christ.
Look at how Jesus lived . He didn’t go around telling the poor to get up of their rears and get to work regardless of what their circumstances were. No! Rather, He said that when we do it ( i.e. give help )to the least of these we do it unto Him. That’s what it means to love our neighbor as ourselves.
The problem is that greed , avarice and corruption are killing us as a nation ( i.e. sinful human nature )as well as the need to keep the economic machine going for the benefit of the wealthiest 2% in the world, primarily. Their god is money , power, prestige, possession and position in a world whose god is mammon.
The solution?
It all starts with ourselves where we are. Ask God to show each and every one of us how we individually can make a difference right where we are ( i.e. bloom where we are planted; be a light in the darkness to show others that there is a better way; reason with folks about doing the right thing as seen through the lens of the bible.)
There are many movements going on right now politically some of which are very good ones. Let’s be a part of the spiritual movement to build the Kingdom of God which God wants and calls us to participate in. Jesus has a custom made yoke for each one of us to carry the burden of Light in this dark world. Let us all pray ” Lord, into thy hands we commend our spirit. Not our wills but Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
