I get a lot of spam – tons of emails I don’t want to read. Today, I got one from a company we’ve been using to maintain our email lists for those who subscribe to our Bible Matters and Inspirations mailing list. It was for a webinar. Here’s how it read:

“How clever brands create addictive content.

Join us for a free webinar with ———–, former television producer and agency executive. He’ll show you how to harness the power of your email content by creating content so good it’s addictive. You’ll learn how to create a hook: a simple twist on a familiar theme, designed to ensnare your audience.”

When I read this advertisement, I saw in my mind a talking snake. This commercial promoting a former television producer’s marketing strategies was nothing more than the talking snake in the garden reincarnated. Listen to the snake talking: “clever brands, addictive content, harness power, so good it’s additive, twist, designed to ensnare your audience.”

And that, my friends, is what all the talking snakes of the Western world sound like. I don’t know what the Eastern world snakes sound line — probably very similiarly. Those snakes dominate every aspect of our society whether political, military, entertainment, public relations and advertising, think tanks, religion,sports, news, media or whatever. It’s all dominated by talking snakes who use the very same tricks this email marketing service used in the above commercial.

Friends, you would do well to ask your heavenly Father for discernment in this matter. To be able to HEAR the voice of our heavenly Father, you would do well to turn off as many of the talking snakes as you can, especially the media talking snakes of ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX, NY TIMES, NSNBC, Washington Post, Bloomberg, etc. There isn’t a nickels worth of difference between Fox News and CNN. They are just two sides of the same dirty dollar.

Father, PLEASE, deliver us from these talking snakes. Give us discernment and the ability to starve these snakes by not eating the lies they are dishing out as truth. We want to hear the Truth from Jesus who is the Truth, not talking snakes. Amen.
